"The imagery of blotting out, forgetting or not remembering, casting into the depths of the sea, removing as far as east is from west, washing or cleansing, and the canceling of an enormous debt are samples of the biblical variety in defining or describing the fullness and reality of the forgiveness of sins."
Bivens, Forrest L. Getting the Right Message Out – And Getting It Out the Right Way Spring 2004. WLQ, Vol. 101, No. 2, p.109 (footnote)

The Bible has been translated into Klingon.

Comment: Okay, so there are some times when the Bible is hard to understand, like when it's translated into Klingon.

"On the part of God there is nothing dark in any part of the inspired Volume; it is merely the darkness of our minds, the difficulty of certain words and phrases in the original, and a few archeological references which give us trouble; all else pertains to man’s perversity. See 2 Pet. 3:16; 1 Cor. 13:9-12; 1 Cor. 2:13-16; Matt. 11:25; 2 Cor. 4:3. The regular study of Holy Writ by believing Christians will remove most difficulties."
Confession of Faith Professed and Practiced by All True Lutherans November 19, 1950. The Lutheran Study Club of St. Louis and St. Louis County
Comment: The above confession was a reaction of certain Missouri Synod Lutheran pastors to a changing attitude within their synod concerning fellowship with Lutherans who taught differently. The boundary of fellowship is easily crossed, if we make the assumption that the Bible is not clear and understandable. Then, of course, there would be reason for contradiction. But such an attitude really places the blame for doctrinal differences on God, because God simply doesn't speak clear enough.
The traditional Lutheran and Christian confession is what is stated above. God is clear, but in our sinfulness, we often superimpose our attitudes and what we want to believe on top of God's Word. That is the real reason for different confessions.
Jesus would not have said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples" (John 8:31), if his teachings were ambiguous and hard to understand. If his teachings weren't clear, how could he tell his disciples, "Go and make disciples of all nations... teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19,20).

“There is not a plainer book on earth than the Holy Scriptures. It is, in comparison with all other books, what the sun is compared with all other luminaries…
It is an abomination, a disgraceful defamation of Holy Writ and the entire Christian Church, to say that the Holy Scriptures are obscure, that they are not clear enough to be understood by everybody and to enable everybody to teach and prove what he believes.” cf. 2 Cor. 4:3.
Martin Luther, St.L.Ed.V.335 - quoted by Walther - The Proper Distinction Between Law and Gospel p. 59
